To support the Laboratory Manager and Quality Manager in the carrying out of their role; the position will also include close liaison with the technical supervisors in the laboratory and the Quality Assurance department.

Job functions/responsibilities:

  • To provide support to the laboratory and Quality Assurance Managers in the management and smooth operation of the Pre-Analytics department, Health and Safety function and regulatory compliance.
  • To manage and continuously review the processes designed to ensure all samples are triaged appropriately prior to internal analytical testing/storage or referral to an external laboratory. 
  • To oversee the Sample Reception, Data Entry and Cytology processing departments - ensuring they have all relevant sample handling information and are informed when changes to processes or regulations occur.
  • To be familiar with the processes required for receiving, processing, packaging, documentation and dispatch of samples to external laboratories.
  • To provide advice on appropriate sample handling procedures to the Customer Support department.
  • To oversee the scanning, filing and archiving of request forms and other hard copy data related to pre-analytics at MLP.
  • To liaise with laboratory technical staff regarding sample management.
  • To assist in the management of special projects as and when they arise.
  • To support the Laboratory and Quality Assurance Managers in the investigation of incidents and subsequent follow up with clients, when necessary.
  • To become familiar with day-to-day organization of the departments as they affect your work.
  • To be aware of the functions of the members of staff in the sub-departments of Pre-Analytics as they affect your work.
  • To attend laboratory meetings as required.
  • To maintain knowledge of and adherence to national screening program and ISO 15189 guidelines and standards.
  • Employ rapid feedback loop to resolve deficiencies found during any Quality Control checks in the department - ensuring subsequent corrections are made.
  • To assist in the implementation of the quality management system, including corrective and preventive actions.
  • To participate in client, regulatory and MLP audits.
  • To lead the Health and Safety Committee and maintain responsibility for all H&S documentation at MLP.
  • To coordinate the training of new and current members of staff under your supervision within all relevant departments.
  • To undertake other reasonable related duties as may be assigned by Management.


  • Experience of working within the healthcare field - preferably working in a QA / regulatory environment.
  • Ability to follow directions with minimal supervision, organize and manage large quantities of samples and documentation.
  • Possess excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
