MedLab Pathology is a part of a global medical diagnostics company, called Sonic Healthcare. Sonic Healthcare is structured as a decentralised federation of medically-led diagnostic practices. Since its establishment in 1987, Sonic Healthcare has grown to become the world's third largest pathology/laboratory medicine company that employs over 36,000 with operations in Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Ireland and the USA.

The Dublin laboratory provides a clinical diagnostic service to public and private hospitals, fertility clinics, private healthcare screening clients and General Practitioners throughout Ireland.

The services provided within the laboratory are blood sciences, cytology and molecular testing. As a member of the Sonic Healthcare group, this provides a further extensive list of testing for specialties within our group. In addition, the laboratory carries out testing on behalf of the HSE for two national screening programs based in Ireland. The laboratory is actively involved in clinical audits, improvement and expansion.



  • Perform automated Haematology and manual differential analysis.
  • Perform automated Clinical Chemistry analysis
  • Participate in the Haematology, Clinical Chemistry and Serology quality assurance program.
  • Assist in reagent and general stock control related to the Autolab area.
  • Be aware of current advances and appraise new techniques.
  • Evaluate results and communicate with the Laboratory Management, Consultant Pathologist and/or the requesting clinician any relevant information regarding patient safety.
  • Carry out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures.
  • Archive slide and results in accordance with relevant procedures
  • Participation in continuing education and feedback sessions
  • Clean and maintain equipment to achieve the optimum instrument performance and maintain a clean and safe working environment
  • Knowledge of and adherence to ISO 15189 requirements.
  • Provide input to maintaining policies and procedures, review and update as required.
  • Comply with Health and Safety legislation and be aware of the responsibilities of the employee in this context.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Chief Medical Scientist and/or Laboratory Manager.

(i) Educational Requirements
BSc in Medical Laboratory Science.
Current registration with Academy of Medical Laboratory Science.
(ii) Experience Required
At least 1 year in a similar role

  1. The appointment is for a locum position.
  2. Industry standard annual leave allowance.
  3. The person appointed must not give less than one month's notice, in writing, of intention to resign.
  4. Normal working hours will be 37.5 hours per week.
  5. You will be required to work the agreed roster/on call arrangements advised to you by your line manager. Your contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 7.00am - 8.00pm Monday - Friday. The additional on call service is a 24 hr service 7 days a week which carries an additional payment and will be rostered accordingly.
